The 13th Annual Sandhill Crane Festival is soliciting original artwork for its Art Show.  Art will be displayed as part of the Sandhill Crane Festival, November 6-8, 2009, at Hutchins Street Square in Lodi, California.

This year we are pleased to announce we will have People’s Choice Awards.  The Sandhill Crane Festival Art Committee retains discretion as to what constitutes suitable or appropriate artwork to be included in the show.

Judging and Awards

Visitors to the exhibit will vote for their favorite pieces, in each Division and Category.  Judging will be open to visitors beginning with the opening reception Friday night until Saturday afternoon at 2 PM.  We anticipate to award cash prizes ranging from $25 to $100.

Submissions

Show inclusion will be determined from digital images or slides only.  Please submit one image or slide per entry; for 3-dimensional works or for certain 2-dimensional works where detail is essential, two digital images or slides per entry will be accepted.  Digital images can be submitted by either emailing a TIFF or JPEG file (300 DPI preferred), to scfestart@gmail.com or by mailing a CD-R with the digital images to the below address.  Slides should be labeled with the title of the work and the artist name and mailed to the below address.  Please include a SASE envelope with sufficient postage if you would like your slides returned.

Entry deadline is October 23, 2009 An entry form must be completed and submitted with your digital image or slide. 

There is a fee of $10 for the first entry in each division and $5 for each subsequent piece.  An artist may enter up to 3 pieces of art per category (in each division) and will donate 20% of any art sales to the Sandhill Crane Festival.

All artwork depicting Sandhill cranes will be considered for the 2010 Sandhill Crane Festival promotional and publicity art.

Eligibility

There are no age restrictions.  All artwork must be original and the property of the submitter.  No substitutes of accepted artwork will be allowed.

Any 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional art media are accepted, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, photographs, pencil, pen & ink, and charcoal drawings, prints, mixed-media, sculpture, and ceramics.  No limited edition prints, airbrush, crafts, or computer-generated or computer-manipulated artwork will be considered.  Camera add-on lenses, filters, and scopes are permitted.

Two-dimensional artwork must be suitably framed, wired, and ready to hang, and may not exceed 48” in width or 36” height, including frame.  Three-dimensional pieces must have a firmly attached base and may not exceed 50 pounds.  If the artwork requires any special hanging hardware, stands, or display directions, they must be included with the artwork.

Each artwork must have a label securely attached to the back or bottom with the artist's name, address, phone number, title of work, medium, and price (or NFS).

Agreement

The utmost care will be taken in the handling and security of your artwork.  By participating, you agree to hold harmless the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association Board of Directors, the Sandhill Crane Festival Steering Committee, the Lodi Arts Commission, and Hutchins Street Square for any damage that may result from your participation.

Accepted artwork will need to be delivered to the Cottage Room of Hutchins Street Square either Thursday, November 5th, from 5-7 PM or Friday, November 6th, from 9-11 AM.  You may pick up your artwork at the end of the Festival on Sunday, November 8th from 4-5 PM.
